Hair Transplant History
Not many people know there are hundred years of the hair transplant history in our civilization before going popular for these last decades. The first successful hair transplant was 196 years ago when a written report was published in Wurzburg, German. Diffenbach and Unger collaborated in transplanting in both human and animal by moving the hair from one area to other areas of the scalp.
However, it took a century in hair transplant history until the transplantation method was adapted to treat pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia. In the late nineteenth century, hair surgery was performed to treat the baldness for the first time due to scarring generated by injuries. The same idea was used as today’s where the surgeon moves the grafts to the balding area. Today, hair transplant is considered as the prominent solution to overcome androgenetic alopecia.
Japan took an important role in hair transplant history when they developed the modern hair transplant surgery back in the 1930s. He was Japanese dermatologist, Dr. S. Okuda who promoted the use the hair grafts to correct the hair loss in the scalp and other head parts. The method wasn’t leaked until the end of World War II but the reports have shown hundreds of successful procedures in Japan. Indeed, the surgery was for the corrective purpose of traumatic alopecia. However, the method was actually similar to what’s used to treat Androgenetic Alopecia back in the 1950s in the US.
In 1959, the hair transplant was firmly presented in hair transplant history to treat the pattern baldness in the modern procedure. It was the publication of Norman Orentreich’s work where the hair transplant was explained in two dominance concepts between donor and recipient. The donor dominance won the competition in providing a reliable result of growing hair in the balding area. It’s because the transplanted follicles carried the donor character as they’re growing new hair in the balding area.
In the 1960s, there was the starting point of modern hair transplant history where the techniques had been developing since then. Along with science and technology, the hair transplant history method was developed in each aspect including the harvesting method, transplanting method, and providing a natural look as the transplanted hair has grown in the balding area.
Today, the method of hair transplant history becomes more efficient, safe, quality-controlled, and natural results. The microsurgical surgical techniques have been applied to provide a more natural hair grows. All the procedures are now supported by the advances in methods and technologies.
