To answer about when does hair transplant start to grow significantly, we won’t waste your time by explaining the types of hair transplant. When Does Hair Start To Grow After Transplant?

In the 3-4 months after the surgery, it is fair that people ask when does hair transplant start to grow because they don’t see the significant result. Since your hair follicles are still in resting mode, you won’t see any significant regrowth. In some cases, the patient will notice a thinning growth of hair. As mentioned, it recovers and regrows. So, when does hair transplant start to grow exactly? The new hair growth will kick in the 6th month or so. Most of the hair transplant patients will notice the significant regrowth of the hair. These new hairs will be bulkier, thicker, and denser than before. But keep in mind that it is still slow to look at. The most significant growth will happen in the 12th month after the surgery. It occurs between 12th to 18th months after the surgery. So, we can agree that some patients even enjoy the result after one and a half year.

Once you completed the hair transplant procedure, you’ll enter the telogen phase. The transplanted follicular units are shedding in this phase. You may find the transplanted hair is falling which may occur for about two weeks. What causing the shedding is that the hair follicles experience the stress of shock due to grafting and implantation. After this first shedding phase is over, the hair will regrow within 3-4 months. It’s a typical temporary phase, no need to worry about.

Hair Transplant in Anagen

After the telogen phase, your transplanted hair will enter the Anagen phase when does hair transplant start to grow in the formed balding area. The transplanted follicular units are starting to grow some new hair in this phase. The growth rate may vary for each person, however, you may experience about a half inch of hair growth a month in this phase. At this point, your surgeon or doctor may evaluate and determine whether you should take another session of grafting to reach the thickness or fullness goals. The transplanted hair follicular units will continue to grow new hair for up to 2 – 6 years after the procedure.

Catagen Hair growth

After the Catagen phase, the transplanted hair will enter the catagen phase which is actually a transitional phase. In this phase, the transplanted hair will stop growing and stay in dormancy for about two weeks. The Catagen is an actually unnoticeable phase where you can hardly see the transition between anagen phase and the second Anagen phase.

Telogen II

Catagen is a transitional phase to the second Telogen which is actually different from the first which occur right after the hair transplant procedure for only about 2 weeks. Your transplanted hair will enter this second Telogen and remain there for about 3-4 months which may leave only 10 percent of your hair. However, another hair growth will catch up soon in the Anagen stage to compensate the hair falls.
